Children Of The Port
 

Historical Port Kemeraltı Association for Supporting Intercultural Art and Education, in  
short Port; It is the institutional equivalent of an initiative founded by a group of artists, scientists and academics who longs for a peaceful, open to the new, egalitarian, respectful of the historical past, creative, open to the world Kemeraltı.
 

In this process that started in March 2020, the founders of the initiative wrote these thoughts as an approach as a result of more than 50 interviews and researches. (Link)

Port founder and participants; It consists of individuals who grew up in Kemeraltı, who are from İzmir, who have recently settled in İzmir, who live outside Izmir and even abroad, who understand the importance of Kemeraltı and the Historical Port region and who are concerned about the changes to be experienced here, and who are candidates to reveal their ideas and efforts in this regard .
 

Historical Port

 

“The Historical Port Area” is a fairly new concept that entered the İzmir literature with the UNESCO World Heritage Application and represents an expansion of approximately 50% in the old Kemeraltı (Old City Izmir) plans  . Port entrepreneurs consider the transition from Kemeraltı to such a concept positive, considering the similar ones in the world.
 

This wide and historic Port provides us all with ancient and safe waters to take shelter in.

This region is the “Tired Beating Heart of İzmir” and perhaps beyond that of the Mediterranean.
 

The historical area of ​​İzmir, which is required to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, is an area of ​​252 hectares. It stretches from Girls' High School to Aziz Vukolos Church, from Konak-Pier to Kadifekale.

It contains 23 inns, 8 museums, 34 fountains, 11 baths, 14 archaeological sites including the ancient theater and Agora,

44 mosques-masjids, 9 synagogues and 1 church.

 

There are about 1500 registered structures.

Even today, it continues to be a vibrant center that has been living for 2500 years with

15 thousand workplaces attracting 150-200 thousand visitors a day.

Objectives

It is a center of attraction that is livable, creative, at peace with its own history, where its inhabitants feel peaceful,  lively, alive, enjoying being lost as a little adventure in its streets .

It is a KEMERALTI, in which our memories are not brutally destroyed, culture, art, thought, product, and all kinds of values ​​are exchanged in value, new experiences will be gained,

in short ,  we will enjoy.

PORT is a modest "boat" built to achieve these goals.

 

It is only one of the "boats" that have been established and will be established.
 

We will only be able to build a safe PORT together.

Port entrepreneurs see it as an activity area to carry out these activities within the framework of a coordination with all institutions, organizations, individuals and initiatives that worry about the Kemeraltı region.

With this perspective, he accepts differences as a wealth.

Different disciplines, different geographies, beliefs and cultures are the colors of this richness that suit PORT.

Organization

The initiative can build institutions such as associations, foundations, cooperatives, companies to achieve its goals. These will be tools.

The venture is a non-profit public entity.

The initiative develops in line with the needs and orientations of the participants.

There is no the head of the enterprise, the owner, etc.
